Ganesh Prasad Srivastava16 June 1933Dr. Ganesh Prasad Srivastava, an Indian professor of physics and author of several books, was born on this date in Varanasi.

  • In 1957 – He did his PhD (doctoral degree) in microwave pressure broadening studies from Allahabad University.
  • He published 180 research publications in International journals spanning the fields of spectroscopy, semiconductor physics, magnetism. quantum electronics and microwave superconductivity.
  • He established a large Microwave Research group at Delhi University (DU).
  • He was the first Head of the Department of Electronic Science at the South Campus (DU) & the first Dean of the Faculty of Interdisciplinary and Applied Sciences in South Campus.
  • He was the first to observe rotational transition in hydrogen bounded molecules.
  • He retired as Professor of Electronics from the Delhi University.

16 June 1963 – Valentina Tereshkova became the first & youngest woman to have flown in space with a solo mission on the Vostok 6.

  • She completed 48 orbits on board the spaceship “Vostok 6” and spent almost three days in space before returning safely to Earth.
  • She was declared “Hero of the Soviet Union” and received the United Nations Gold Medal of Peace.

 

 

16 June 1964 – Gopal Prasad Sharma, an internationally recognized Indian artist associated with the traditional miniature art of Rajasthan, born on this date at Bijolia, Rajasthan.

  • In 2007 – He received a National Award for Master Craftsman.
  • His family were artists to the royal family of Bijolia.
  • He began working as a professional miniature painting artist in 1980.
  • He made his colors from minerals, vegetables, precious stones, indigo, conch shells, and pure gold and silver.
  • He detailed paintings are based on the culture and tradition of Rajasthan.
  • In 2003, the Nehru Centre, London recognized his artwork for his world-record smallest painting on a mustard seed.
  • He has also taught approximately 20,000 students internationally.

16 June 1993 – Rahul Chaudhari, an Indian professional kabaddi player, born on this date in the Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh.

  • He started out playing as a defender and later went on to become a full-fledged raider.
  • He is also known as ‘Raid Machine’.
  • Under his leadership, Indian Team won Gold in Asian Beach Games 2014.
  • He represented India in the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup and was also a member of the Indian National Kabaddi team in the 2016 South Asian Games that won gold medals in both the events.
  • In Pro Kabaddi League, he debuted with Telugu Titans and played six seasons for Telugu Titans & he now plays for Tamil Thalaivas.
  • In Pro Kabaddi League, he is the main raider for his team Tamil Thalaivas.
  • In Pro Kabaddi League, he is the first player and raider to score more than 700 points.

  • She is the sixth Indian female tennis player to enter the top 200 of the WTA (Women Tennis Association) rankings.
