CONTEXT:

  • Recently, the Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC) has launched its initiative namely, ‘SAKSHAM (Shramik Shakti Manch)’.

SAKSHAM (SHRAMIK SHAKTI MANCH):

  • It is a dynamic job portal for mapping the skills of Shramiks vis-à-vis requirements of MSMEs.
  • It directly connect Shramiks with MSMEs and facilitate placement of 10 lakh blue-collar jobs.
  • It will connect labourers to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in their native places via WhatsApp.
  • Sending a 'Hi' on WhatsApp will enable labourers to find jobs matching their skills with the help of an artificial-intelligence-driven chatbot.
  • The SAKSHAM job portal will help eliminate middlemen/ labour contractor as well as help identification of skill proficiency level and development of Skill Cards for Shramiks.
  • The portal with the demand and supply data uses algorithm and Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, for geo spatial information on demand and availability of Shramiks.

TECHNOLOGY INFORMATION, FORECASTING AND ASSESSMENT COUNCIL (TIFAC):

  • TIFAC is an autonomous organization set up in 1988 under the Department of Science & Technology.
  • As per the recommendation of Technology Policy Implementation Committee (TPIC) in 1985, Cabinet approved the formation of TIFAC in mid-1986.
  • It was formed as a registered Society in February, 1988 under the Department of Science and Technology as an autonomous body.
  • It was mandated to assess the state-of-art of technology and set directions for future technological development in India in important socio-economic sectors.
