Why in News?

With a view to creating awareness among consumers of fossil fuels, the Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA), Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas launched a month-long campaign outlining the adverse health and environmental impacts of rising carbon footprint.

KEY Points:

  • Saksham’ aims to convince consumers to move towards clean fuels and bring behavioral changes to use fossil fuels wisely.
  • This campaign will also spread awareness about 7 carriers Major carriers include gas-based economy, clean use of fossil fuels, greater reliance on domestic sources to induce bio-fuels, achieving renewable targets with set timeframes, electric vehicles to reduce carbon content in mobility increased use, greater use of clean fuels such as hydrogen and digital innovation in all energy systems are included.

PCRA:

The Petroleum Conservation Research Association is an organization established in India in 1978, under the aegis of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas of Government of India that is engaged in promoting energy efficiency in various sectors of the economy.

FACTS FOR PRELIMS:

Tejas:

  • Tejas is a Light Combat Aircrafts-LCA developed in India.
  • It is a fighter aircraft with many specialties.
  • The structure of Tejas is made of carbon fiber, due to which it is much lighter than planes made from other metals.
  • Its development in India began in the 1980s under a program called Light Combat Aircraft (LCA), officially named Tejas (Tejas), in 2003 by the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
  • It has been developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

Khadi Natural Paint (Khadi Prakritik paint) :

  • This is India’s first paint made from cow dung, developed by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission.
  • It is an environmentally friendly, non-toxic paint,
  • It is the first product of its kind, which has anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties.
  • Cow dung has been used as the main ingredient in this paint, it is cost effective and odorless. This paint has been certified by the Bureau of Indian Standards.
  • This paint does not contain any other heavy metals like glass, mercury, chromium, arsenic, cadmium.
