British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on a Two-day Visit to India

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will arrive in Ahmedabad, Gujarat today on a two-day visit to India. He will visit the Gandhi Ashram and later go to Gujarat Biotechnology University and Akshardham temple in Gandhinagar.

Key Highlights:

  • Johnson will also visit a plant of JCB Company at Halol near Vadodara. He will leave for Delhi in the evening.
  • In New Delhi on 22nd of April, he will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • India and the United Kingdom enjoy a long and historical relationship that was elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during the India-UK Virtual Summit 2021.
  • The two Prime Ministers will review implementation of the Roadmap 2030 and set their vision for further intensifying cooperation across the full spectrum of bilateral ties.
  • They will also exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.
  • This is his maiden visit to India as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

PM Inaugurates Development Projects in Dahod, Gujarat

On a three-day visit to his home state Gujarat since 18th of April Prime Minister Narendra Modi today laid the foundation stone and inaugurated the various development projects worth Rs 22,000 crore at Adijati Maha Sammelan organised at Dahod in Gujarat.

Key Highlights:

  • It also includes the manufacturing project of 9,000 HP Electric Locomotives at the Railway Production Unit in Dahod. The project will be completed at the cost of around Rs 20,000 crore.
  • Dahod workshop- established in 1926 for periodic overhaul of steam locomotives will be upgraded to electric locomotive manufacturing unit with infrastructural improvements. It will provide direct and indirect employment to over 10,000 people.
  • PM also inaugurated the other development projects worth over Rs 1,400 crore. These include Dahod District Southern Area Regional Water Supply Scheme constructed on Narmada River Basin at the cost of around Rs 840 crore. It will cater to the water supply needs of around 280 villages in Dahod District and Devgadh Baria city.
  • The Prime Minister inaugurated five projects of Dahod Smart City worth around Rs 335 crore. These projects include Integrated Command and Control Centre - ICCC Building, Storm Water Drainage System, Sewerage Works, Solid Waste Management System and Rain-Water Harvesting System.
  • Under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, benefits worth Rs 120 crore have been provided to 10,000 tribals of Panchmahal and Dahod districts.
  • He also inaugurated 66 KV Ghodia Sub-Station, Panchayat Houses, Anganwadis, among others. The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone of various projects of the State Government worth around Rs 550 crore. This includes water supply related projects worth about Rs 300 crore, Dahod Smart City Projects worth around Rs 175 crores, works related to Dudhimat River Project, GETCO Sub-Station at Ghodia among others

More than 3 lakh Participated in Ayushman Bharat Block-Level Health Mela’s

More than three lakh 57 thousand people participated in Ayushman Bharat Block-Level Health Mela’s on 19th April. More than 60,000 ABHA Health ID’s were created and 21,000 PMJAY Golden Cards were issued in addition to thousands of screenings being done for Hypertension, and diabetes.

Key Highlights:

  • From 18th to 22nd of April, Block-Level Health Melas at more than one lakh Health and Wellness Centres in at least one block in each district are being organised.
  • Each Block-Level Health Mela would be for one day and each block in the States and UT will be covered.
  • Health Ministry in collaboration with States and UTs is celebrating the Fourth Anniversary of Ayushman Bharat Health and Wellness Centres under 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' from 16th to 22nd of April.

EPFO adds 14.12 lakh net subscribers in February 2022

Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has added 14.12 lakh net subscribers in the month of February 2022. The month-on-month comparison of payroll data reflects a slight increase of 31 thousand 826 net subscriber addition in February 2022 compared to the previous month of January.

Key Highlights:

  • A year-on-year comparison shows an increase of over one lakh 74 thousand net additions during February as compared to net subscriber addition in corresponding month of 2021.
  • There is a consistent increase in the net subscriber addition since October last year showcasing trust in the services rendered by the organization.
  • Age-wise comparison of payroll data indicates that the age group of 22 to 25 years has been on the forefront by registering the highest number of net enrolments of 3.70 lakh additions during February.
  • It indicates that many first-time job seekers are joining the organized sector workforce in large numbers.

Two More Bronze at Asian Wrestling Championship in Greco-Roman Category In Wrestling, Harpreet Singh and Sachin Sahrawat bagged a bronze each as Indian Greco-Roman wrestlers concluded their campaign at the Asian Wrestling Championships 2022 with five medals; all are bronze in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia on 21st April.

  • Harpreet defeated Korea's Sejin Yang 4-2 in the quarter-final before going down to Iran's Rasoul Sadegh Garmsiri in the semis by fall in the 82 kg weight category.
  • In the bronze medal match, Harpreet was declared the winner after Jafar Khan from Qatar suffered an injury.

WHO Director General Tedros Ghebreyesus on a 3-day visit to Nepal Director General of World Health Organization, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on a three day visit to Nepal. According to the Nepal's Foreign Affairs Ministry, He arrived at Kathmandu on 21st of April and meet President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, and Chairperson of National Assembly Ganesh Prashad Timilsina during the visit.

  • Dr Tedros accompanied by the Regional Director of WHO Southeast Asia Regional Office Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh and other officials.

Wimbledon Rejects Entries from Russia and Belarus

On 20th April, Wimbledon announced to decline entries from Russian and Belarusian players for the Grand Slam tournament as result of invasion of Ukraine. The major tournament Championships 2022 is scheduled to begin from 27 July.

  • The decision will affect a number of highly ranked players, including the world No. 2 Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova from Russia, and former world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka and fourth ranked Aryna Sabalenka from Belarus.
  • However, the players are allowed to compete on the tennis tour under neutral flags.
