PM to Confer Awards for Excellence in Public Administration on 21st April
 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will confer Awards for Excellence in Public Administration 2021 on Civil Services Day. The awards has been instituted with a view to recognise the extraordinary and innovative work done by districts and organisations of the Central and State governments for the welfare of the people.

Key Highlights:

  • Ten awards for five identified Priority Programmes will be given, while six awards will be given to organisations of Central and State Government and Districts for innovations.
  • In New Delhi on 20th April, Science and Technology Minister Dr Jitendra Singh inaugurating the two days event to mark the Civil Service Day.
  • Earlier the PM Awards for Excellence in Public Administration was based on the individual profile of the officer but now it is based on the flagship programme performance of the individual district.
  • The government is preparing a vision document for India - 2047.
     
National Apprenticeship Mela 2022

National Apprenticeship Mela 2022 will be organised across the country in more than over 700 locations on 21st of April. Skill India, in association with Directorate General of Training, is organising the day-long Apprenticeship Mela across the country. Under the initiative, the aim is to support hiring of more than one lakh apprentices and assist employers in tapping the right talent and develop it further with training and providing practical skill sets.

Key Highlights:

  • The event will witness participation from more than four thousand organisations across the country, operating in more than 30 sectors such as Power, Retail, Telecom, IT/ITeS, Electronics, and Automotive. 
  • The aspiring youth will have the opportunity to engage and select from more than 500 trades including Welder, Electrician, Housekeeper, Beautician, and Mechanic. 
  • The National Policy of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2015. It recognises apprenticeship as a means to provide gainful employment to skilled workforce with adequate compensation.
  • Passed students of Class 5 to Class 12, skill training certificate holders, ITI students, diploma holders and graduates are eligible to apply at the Apprenticeship Mela.

Project-75's last Scorpene-Class Submarine INS Vagsheer Launched 

The sixth and the last of the Scorpene-class submarines of Project-75, INS Vagsheer, were launched in Mumbai. The submarine has been built by Mumbai-based Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited - MDL under the ‘Make in India’ initiative. Vagsheer is named after the Sand Fish, a deadly deep sea predator of the Indian Ocean.

Key Highlights:

  • According to Chief Guest Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar, the submarine is a shining example of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. 
  • MDL, India’s premier shipbuilder company is playing a huge role in indigenisation of maritime construction. 
  • According to MDL the submarine will now undergo a very comprehensive and rigorous set of tests and trials that are likely to go for a year. 
  • The trials will ensure delivery of a fully combat worthy submarine, capable of operation in all modes and regimes of deployment.
  • The state-of-art technology utilised in the Scorpene Class submarine has ensured superior stealth features such as advanced acoustic absorption techniques, low radiated noise levels and the ability to launch a crippling attack on the enemy using precision guided weapons. 
  • The submarine can carry out various types of missions i.e Anti-Surface warfare, Anti-Submarine warfare, Intelligence gathering, Mine Laying and Area Surveillance.
  • The four submarines of the Project-75 Scorpene programme, namely Kalvari, Khanderi, Karanj and Vela have already been commissioned into the Indian Navy while the fifth Submarine Vagir is under sea trials phase.

Indian Navy's 1st Training Squadron Ships Reached Salalah Port, Oman

As part of their Overseas Deployment, ships of the First Training Squadron of the Indian Navy, namely INS Tir, INS Tarangini, INS Sujata and CGS Sarathi, have reached the port of Salalah, Oman.

Key Highlights:

  • During the three-day visit, the ships would be involved in interactions with the officials from the Royal Navy of Oman and various other dignitaries.
  • To further strengthen the bilateral relations and maritime cooperation between Oman and India, the ships will participate in a joint exercise (PASSEX).

Mobile App for 2nd Khelo India University Games Launched
 

 

The second edition of Khelo India University Games to be held in the India's technology capital of Bengaluru will have its own mobile app. The app is a single point reference for all the information on the University games to be inaugurated by Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on 24th April and the event held till 3rd May.

Key Highlights:

  • The app will provide information on accommodation, food, transport service and timings, emergency contact numbers, maps to reach the stadiums among other things.
  • It will also carry updates on event schedules, results and medal tally. 
  • The app can be downloaded from the play store for free. 
  • Post Covid, it will be India’s first largest sporting event with participation of over 4500 sports persons from 189 Universities in 20 disciplines. 

Three Indian Wrestlers Won Bronze at Asian Wrestling Championship

On the first day of Asian Wrestling Championship in Mongolia, three of the five Greco Roman wrestlers of India, including Sunil Kumar, won bronze medals on 19th April. 

Key Highlights:

  • Second time Sunil has earned a podium finish at the Asian championships, having won the 87 kg title in the 2020 edition.
  • In the 55kg competition, Arjun Halakurki defeated Davaabandi Munkh Erdene 10-7 in the bronze play-off. Arjun had also won a bronze at the 2020 edition of the event. 
  • In 63kg, Neeraj got the better of Uzbekistan's Islomjon Bakhramov 7-4 to earn bronze medal.
  • Sajan Bhanwal missed out on a bronze when he was outplayed by Japan's Kodai Sakuraba in the 77kg category. 
  • 5th wrestler Prem Kumar bowed out after losing his opening 130kg qualification bout 0-5 to Iran's Amir Mohammadali Ghasemimonjazi.
