NATIONAL EVENTS

Nation Pays Homage to Dr B R Ambedkar on his 131st Birth Anniversary

Dr B R Ambedkar (14 April, 1891 - 06 December, 1956):  The nation pays homage to the Chief Architect of Indian Constitution Dr B R Ambedkar on his 131st birth anniversary. 

  • Several functions have been organised throughout the country to mark the occasion. Floral tributes paid at Babasaheb's Statue in the Parliament House Complex.
  • Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar donned many hats, being social reformer, economist, politician, who dedicated his life for the people. Babasaheb Dr Ambedkar worked steadfast throughout his life to end social and caste discrimination against the marginalised sections of the society. 
  • From a humble beginning, he went on to become the first law and justice minister of independent India. He was awarded India’s highest civilian honour the Bharat Ratna in 1990 posthumously.
     

PM Narendra Modi Inaugurates the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya

The Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya is built at Delhi's Teen Murti Estate and covers the lives and contributions of all the 14 former Prime Ministers of the country.

  • Guided by the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya is a tribute to honour the contributions of all the former Prime Ministers.
  • It is an inclusive endeavour aimed at sensitizing and inspiring the younger generation about the leadership, vision and achievements of all Prime Ministers of the country.
  • The design of the museum is inspired by the story of rising India. The logo of the museum represents the hands of the people of India holding the Dharma Chakra symbolizing the nation and democracy. There are a total of 43 galleries in the museum. 
  • Representing a seamless blend of the old and the new, the museum integrates the erstwhile Teen Murti Bhawan designated as Block I, with the newly constructed building designated as Block II. The total area of the two blocks is over 15 thousand 600 square meters.
  • No tree has been felled or transplanted during the course of work on the project. The museum has employed cutting-edge technology-based interfaces to encompass heterogeneity in content and frequent rotation of display. 
  • Holograms, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Multi-touch, Multimedia, interactive kiosks, interactive screens enable the exhibition content to become highly interactive and engaging.
  • The Pradhan Mantri Sangrahalaya also celebrates the making of the Constitution of India and inform visitors about the great men and women of the Constituent Assembly, especially BR Ambedkar, who steered our ancient nation to a modern Republic.
     

GOVERNMENT SCHEMES

Continuation of Revamped Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan

Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the continuation of the revamped Centrally-sponsored scheme of Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan from the 1st of April to the 31st of March 2026. 

  • It will be extended to all States and Union Territories of the country. 
  • The scheme has been done to develop governance capabilities of Panchayati Raj Institutions and this decision will help achieve Sustainable Development Goals.
  • The total outlay for the scheme is five thousand nine hundred and 11 crore rupees with Central share of three thousand seven hundred crore rupees and State share will be two thousand two hundred eleven crore rupees.

4th Anniversary of Launch of Health & Wellness Centres

Ministry of Health and Family welfare is celebrating 4th anniversary of launch of Health and Wellness Centres.

  • Health and Wellness Centres aim to provide comprehensive primary healthcare including promotive, preventive and curative care.
  • Health and Wellness Centres also provide tele-consultation services to the citizens
     

ECONOMY

Customs Duty waives off on Cotton Imports
 

Central Government has exempted the import of cotton from customs duties from 14th of April to 30th of September 2022. 

  • Ministry of Finance issued a notification and saying that the exemption on cotton import will come into effect from 14th April and remain in force till 30th of September, 2022. 
  • The exemption will benefit the textile chain-yarn, fabric, garments and made-ups and will also provide relief to consumers. 
  • Textile exports are also to be benefitted from the exemption. 
  • Previously, the import of cotton attracted a 5 percent basic customs duty and another 5 percent Agriculture Infrastructure Development Cess (AIDC).

Rohit Sharma becomes 2nd Indian to score 10,000 runs in T20

Rohit Sharma has become only the second Indian after Virat Kohli to score 10 thousand runs in the T20 cricket. 
•    India and Mumbai Indians skipper achieved the milestone during the IPL 2022 match of Mumbai Indians against Punjab Kings in Pune. 
•    He is the seventh batter overall to reach the 10 thousand runs in T20s. 
•    West Indian legend Chris Gayle is leading the list of run-getters with highest runs to his name
