The Parsi New Year begins with the first day of Farvardin, the first month in the Zoroastrian calendar.
The day is also known as Jamshed-i-Nouroz, after the Persian king Jamshed who is believed to have introduced the Parsi calendar
Across the world, Navroz is celebrated at the time of the vernal equinox around March 21. However, Parsis in India follow the Shahenshahi calendar which does not recognise leap years.
The festival was added to the ‘Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity’ in 2009.
