Vice President calls for enhancing Research and Development efforts and roping in private sector to bring down defence imports

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday called for enhancing Research and Development efforts and roping in private sector to bring down defence imports.

He was speaking after laying the foundation stone of the Towed Array Integration Facility at the Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory in Kochi this evening as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

Noting that India is on its way to become a global superpower, the Vice President said India is focusing on self defence as its core philosophy is share and care. He said the country is committed to peace, as it is the prerequisite for progress.

He called upon nations to commit themselves for peaceful coexistence.

The DRDO developed DHWANI Acoustic Trainer System was handed over to the Southern Naval Command, while the licensing agreements for Transfer of Technology of Ushus series of submarine sonars were handed over to Bharat Electronics Ltd on the occasion.

The Vice President also inaugurated the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Memorial and Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav installation at the NPOL
