Today is anniversary of Bhopal gas tragedy. Considered among the world's worst industrial disasters, the Bhopal gas tragedy was a gas leak incident 37 years ago, on the intervening night of December 2-3 in 1984, at the Union Carbide India Limited (UCIL) pesticide plant in Bhopal.

AIR Correspondent reports, Lakhs of people were affected by the incident, which killed thousands of people due the exposure to methyl isocyanate (MIC) gas. One of the survivors of Bhopal gas tragedy Kamlesh Jaimini, a photo journalist while sharing his vivid memories of disaster remembers it as a traumatic night.

Department of Bhopal gas tragedy relief and rehabilitation of state government is working towards economic and social rehabilitation of the victims along with NGOs and voluntary organisations.

Minister of the department Vishwas Sarang informed that with a view to provide free medical relief to gas victims a massive medical rehabilitation programme is also being undertaken by the government.

Survivors and Bhopal hope that no one will witness such disaster in future and lessons learnt from the tragedy will guide the coming generations.
