Republic Day celebrations begin with Parakram Divas to mark 125th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose

Republic Day celebrations in the country began today with Parakram Divas to mark 125th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, led the nation in paying tributes to Netaji on the occasion.
 
The Prime Minister unveiled the hologram statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at India Gate in New Delhi this evening. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Modi
said, the statue is a tribute of a grateful nation to the great hero of freedom struggle.  He said, the statue of the legendary leader will not only remind us of our duties to the nation but also inspire democratic values in the generations to come.

The Prime Minister said, the grand statue of Netaji, who had established the first independent government on the soil of India has been installed digitally near India Gate and soon this hologram statue will be replaced by a granite statue. Mr Modi said, today we have a goal to fulfill the dreams of independent India and We have a target to build a New India before the 100 years of independence. He said, Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav vision for India is to revive its identity and inspirations.

The Prime Minister said, we have to take inspiration from Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's Can Do, Will Do Spirit. He expressed confidence that with public participation, we will be able to build India of Netaji's dreams.

Paying tribute to Netaji, President Kovind in his meesage said, the daring steps that Netaji took to fulfill his fierce commitment to the idea of a free India - Azad Hind - make him a national icon.

The Vice President in his message said, the entire nation fondly remembers and salutes the legendary leader on Parakram Divas today.
Prime Minister Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha, Piyush Goyal paid floral tributes at the portrait of Netaji in the Central Hall of Parliament House. Members of Parliament and former Members of Parliament also paid tributes to Netaji.

The portrait of visionary leader was unveiled on 23rd of January in 1978 by the then President Dr. N. Sanjiva Reddy, in the Central Hall of Parliament House .
Several political leaders including Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also paid tributes to Netaji on the occasion.

Several functions were organised across the country to mark the occasion.

In West Bengal, the main function was organised at Maidan in Kolkata where West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee paid floral tribute on the statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

Government of West Bengal is celebrating his 125 birth anniversary as Desh Nayak Dibas in a befitting manner all over the state while following COVID protocols. The State government has appealed to the Centre to declare Netaji’s birthday as a National Holiday.
