PM Modi’s visit to reinforce comprehensive strategic partnership with Bangladesh: Foreign Secretary Shringla

The visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Bangladesh starting on 26 March will be of very special significance in reinforcing the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries. Briefing media ahead of the official state visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Bangladesh on Wednesday Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla said that Prime Minister’s first visit to a foreign country after the Covid 19 pandemic signifies the importance India attaches to its ties with Bangladesh. 

During his visit to Bangladesh Prime Minister Modi will join the national day celebration of Bangladesh on 26th March and deliver an address at the National Parade ground in Dhaka. He will also hold delegation level talks and restricted talks with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh. Prime Minister Modi will pay homage at the National Martyr’s memorial at Savar just outside Dhaka. He will also jointly inaugurate the Bangabandhu- Bapu exhibition with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh.

During the visit Prime Minister Modi will interact with diverse groups of Bangladesh polity and society including representatives of the 14 party ruling alliance and main opposition in the parliament Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). He will also meet community leaders, youth icons and liberation war fighters ‘Muktijoddhas’ during the visit. 

Prime Minister will also visit heritage sites of cultural importance in Satkhira and Orakandi in the country. He will be the first Prime Minister to visit the Bangabandhu Mausoleum at the birthplace of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Tungipara in Gopalganj district. 

Foreign Secretary Shringla said that a range of agreements will be signed during the visit of Prime Minister Modi covering areas like Disaster management, trade and oceanography among others. He said that beyond the agreements, new announcements will be made in the areas of culture, preservation of the 1971 spirit and cooperation in health and power sectors during the high level visit. 
Foreign Secretary Shringla said that the visit will reinforce existing areas of cooperation and also introduce new areas of cooperation. Calling the India Bangladesh ties as a model of relationship between neighbours, Foreign Secretary said that this visit will be another significant milestone in bilateral relations between the two countries which will further consolidate the strength of the ties between the two countries.
