PM Modi hands over indigenously developed defence equipment to armed forces, giving major push to Atmanirbhar Bharat in defence sector

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that for a long time, India has been among the largest arms buyer countries in the world. But, today the Mantra of the country is - Make in India, Make for the world. Now, India is working to make its forces self-reliant. Jhansi will be a major player in this enterprise, he said. Mr Modi was addressing the concluding ceremony of the Rashtra Raksha Samparpan Parv which culminated in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh yesterday where he dedicated to the nation multiple initiatives in the Defence sector.

Speaking on this occasion, the Prime Minister said, India’s power in the defence sector is increasing. He said, the focus of the Sainik Schools should be on preparing youth to safeguard the country. He hoped that Sainik Schools will prepare our daughters brave like Rani Lakhsmi Bai. He said, today India is working on making its armed forces AatmaNirbhar in making defence products. Speaking on the occasion, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said, target of the government is to develop 90 per cent of defence-related products/materials indigenously. He said, India is working in a direction to reduce its dependence on the world regarding making defence products.

Mr. Modi handed over indigenously designed and developed equipment to the Armed Forces. These equipment include Hindustan Aeronautics Limited designed and developed Light Combat Helicopters; drones/UAVs designed and developed by Indian start-ups; and DRDO designed and Bharat Electronics Limited manufactured Advanced Electronic Warfare suites for naval ships. During the event, Mr. Modi also laid the foundation stone of the 400-crore rupee project at Jhansi node of UP Defence Industrial Corridor.

NCC Alumni Association was also launched with the objective to provide a formal platform to enable NCC Alumni to reconnect with NCC. Mr. Modi also unveiled the sculpture of Rani Lakshmibai on her 193rd Birth Anniversary at the Jhansi Fort. The Prime Minister started the National programme of Simulation Training for NCC cadets with the aim to scale up simulation training facilities for all three wings of NCC.
