The Netherlands has been blanketed by the first major snowstorm to hit in a decade. The storm yesterday disrupted rail and road traffic, as a cold front pushed through northern Europe. Dutch authorities have closed all coronavirus testing centres because of the extreme weather and people were advised to avoid travelling outside. Eindhoven airport was closed and incoming flights were diverted to Germany, while Schiphol airport in Amsterdam has warned travellers about delays. The cold snap is a result of "Storm Darcy", which has also affected parts of the United Kingdom.

The Netherlands was preparing for several days of winter weather and freezing temperatures, as “code red” was applied across the entire country from Saturday night. Up to 30 centimetres of snow fell in some places in the country, combined with a strong wind from the east. Up to ten days of sub-zero temperature is expected in the Netherlands.
