MP Local Body Polls: BJP wins 7 mayor post; PM Modi congratulates all winning candidates

In Madhya Pradesh, BJP has achieved resounding success by winning 7 out of 11 municipal corporations in the first phase of the post of mayor elections. On the other hand, Congress candidate has won in 3 and Aam Aadmi Party candidate has won in one Municipal Corporation. The counting of votes for the remaining 5 cities will be held on July 20 in the second phase.

AIR correspondent reports that in Indore Municipal Corporation, BJP's Mayor Candidate Pushyamitra Bhargava got the biggest victory by more than 1 lakh 33 thousand votes. Malti Rai of BJP has won Bhopal by more than 98 thousand votes. BJP has also won in Khandwa, Satna, Sagar, Ujjain, and Burhanpur, while Congress has got Jabalpur, Gwalior, and Chhindwara and Aam Aadmi Party has won in Singrauli. BJP has got a clear majority in 27 out of 36 municipalities in the state. Congress got a majority in just four. Describing this as a historic success of the BJP, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan thanked the people. He said that usually there was a level playing field in the local election, but this time 80 percent of seats have been won by BJP.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has thanked voters for reposing their faith in BJP in Madhya Pradesh civic polls. In a tweet, Mr Modi said, this victory is a symbol of unwavering faith of people in the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government of the state. He congratulated party workers as well as all the winning candidates.
