In Nepal, President Bidhya Devi Bhandari has re-appointed KP Sharma Oli as Prime Minister as the opposition parties failed to put together a coalition government by the 9 pm deadline yesterday. Oli will take the oath of office today.

He had lost a trust vote in the House of Representatives on Monday. He will have 30 days to prove that he has majority support in the House.

The main contender to the PM post, Sher Bahadur Deuba who is the chief of the main opposition Nepali Congress, had informed his allies shortly ahead of the deadline that he would not be able to put together a coalition government with a majority in the House.

The formal withdrawal by Sher Bahadur Deuba left no other option for the President but to invite Oli to form a government again.
