Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani chaired the Zonal Conference of State Governments and Stakeholders of North-East region on the Ministry schemes in Guwahati today and laid down the details of Poshan 2.0 Abhiyan, Mission Shakti, Mission Vatsalya and Saksham Anganwadi and other initiatives of the Ministry.
Addressing the gathering, the Union Minister said that respect and dignity for the women of our country is the first basic need and informed us that there are 704 One-Stop Centres functioning in the country to provide medico-legal counselling to women in distress. This year 300 more such centres will be opened where crime against women are higher and last year about 70 lakh women have received support from the central and state governments.
Smt. Irani pointed out that the Budget this year has provided 14 per cent more allocation than the previous year. There are 24 crore women benefiting from Jan-Dhan Yojana, 68 per cent of beneficiaries of Mudra Yojana are women and 80 per cent of the beneficiaries of Stand-Up India are women. In the coming days, efforts will be made to assimilate data at the district level and the Child Welfare Committees will have trained qualified members.
Empowerment and protection of women and children who constitute 67.7% of India’s population and ensuring their wholesome development in a safe and secure environment is crucial for the sustainable and equitable development of the country and for achieving transformational economic and social changes. To achieve this objective, Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has recently approved 3 important Umbrella Schemes of the Ministry to be implemented in mission mode, viz., Mission Poshan 2.0, Mission Shakti and Mission Vatsalya. These 3 Missions will be implemented during the 15th Finance Commission period, 2021-22 to 2025-26, informed the Union Minister.
The objective of this Zonal Conference is to sensitise State Governments on 3 Umbrella Missions of the Ministry to facilitate proper implementation of the Schemes over the next 5 years in the true spirit of co-operative federalism to ensure that the transformational social change envisaged under the Missions is accomplished for the benefit of women and children of the country.
The states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Sikkim and Nagaland participated in the meeting.
