GSLVF10 EOS3 mission failed

The GSLVF10 blasted off from Sriharikota on Thursday but could not put the satellite into orbit.

Why it failed ?
The cryogenic upper stage ignition did not happen due to a technical anomaly.

EOS3
EOS3 was the first state of art agile Earth Observation Satellite which would have been placed in a geosynchronous orbit around the Earth.

The objectives of the Earth Observation Satellite

  • to provide real time imaging of large areas of the planet
  • to monitor natural disasters from its position in the sky
  • to provide warnings for natural disasters, observe cyclones, cloudbursts, thunderclouds etc

Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV)

  • The GSLV Mark II is the largest launch vehicle built by India.
  • It can launch satellites that will travel in orbits that are synchronous with the Earth’s orbit
