Climate change has added over 1,000 lakes in Swiss Alps

• The inventory of Swiss Glacial lakes showed that almost 1,200 new lakes have formed in formerly glaciated regions of the Swiss Alps since the end of the Little Ice Age around 1850.
• The Alpine region of Switzerland, conventionally referred to as the Swiss Alps
• Along with the Swiss Plateau and the Swiss portion of the Jura Mountains, it is one of the three main physiographic regions of Switzerland.
• The Swiss Alps comprise almost all the highest mountains of the Alps, such as Dufourspitze (4,634 m), the Dom (4,545 m), the Liskamm (4,527 m), the Weisshorn (4,506 m) and the Matterhorn (4,478 m).
