Bangladesh launched a special drive to provide Covid 19 vaccination to 1crore people on Saturday. The nationwide drive was earlier announced to be for a single day but due to the large crowd of people at the vaccination centres, the programme has been extended for two more days till Feb 28.
The special vaccination drive started at 8 a.m. on Saturday with huge lines being seen outside vaccination centres in Dhaka and other cities of Bangladesh. People were allowed to receive vaccines without any prior registration or any document. Those receiving the vaccine will be provided a card as a document to receive the second dose and later the booster dose.
The government has set up a total of 30,000 vaccination centres across the country engaging 1.45 lakh health workers for the special vaccination programme on Saturday.
The government had announced that the first dose of vaccination will be discontinued after the special drive. Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) DG Prof Dr Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam told BSS that the campaign has been launched to bring 70 percent people under the vaccination coverage.
Bangladesh has provided the first dose of the Covid 19 vaccine to over 10.95 crore people, while 8.19 crore people have received both the doses till Friday. Over 35 lakh people have received the booster dose of the vaccine, reports DGHS.
Meanwhile, the sample positivity rate dipped to 4.15 percent on Saturday. During the same period 759 new cases and 8 deaths were also reported taking the death toll to 29,028 in Bangladesh.
