Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will expand his council of ministers today by inducting two new faces.

First-time BJP legislator Nandita Garlosa and Political Secretary to Chief Minister, Jayanta Malla Baruah will be sworn in as new ministers. Nandita Garlosa represented the Haflong constituency while Mr. Baruah won the Nalbari assembly seat last year.

The oath-taking ceremony will be held at 3 pm in Guwahati and this will also be the first cabinet expansion of the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government.

AIR Correspondent reports that with today's expansion, the size of the council of ministry will be extended to 16. The Assam Cabinet can have maximum of 18 members.

The Cabinet currently has 11 members from Bharatiya Janata Party, 2 from the Asom Gana Parishad and 1 from the United People's Party Liberal.

The Chief Minister is also likely to change portfolios of few ministers after the expansion.
