Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a centralized national level entrance test for admissions to twenty two National Law Universities (NLU) in India. Most private and self-financed law schools in India also use these scores for law admissions. Public sector undertakings in India like ONGC, Coal India, BHEL, Steel Authority of India, Oil India etc. use CLAT Post Graduation ( CLAT PG) scores for recruitment of legal positions in the companies. The test is taken after the Higher Secondary Examination or the 12th grade for admission to integrated under-graduate degree in Law (BA LL.B) and after Graduation in Law for Master of Laws (LL.M) programs offered by these law schools.

CLAT exam is conducted once a year through offline mode. CLAT Application process is currently underway from 01 Jan 2021. The online registration process was to close on 31 March 2021 but date has been extended till 30 April 2021.

Steps to fill CLAT Application form 2021

  • Visit the official website - https://consortiumofnlus.ac.in/clat-2021/ & Click on “Register”.
  • Fill the registration form.
  • You will receive an OTP at the registered mobile number. Verify the mobile number to complete the registration process.
  • Login to the registered account using mobile number & password and click on “Apply” button & fill the CLAT application form.
  • Upload scanned photo, signature & other documents like 10th, 12th marksheets/certificates, BPL/SC/ST/OBC certificates if applicable.
  • Pay CLAT application fee through online

Seats:

This year, the total number of seats in CLAT 2021 Admission is around 2,175. Out of which the distribution is as follows:

  • The All India Seats for UG programs is 1,308.
  • The total number of CLAT seats offered to the students of the state where the NLUs are located is 621.
  • The number of seats available for the special category is 325

Eligibility for CLAT 2021 :

  • For UG courses
    • The candidate should have passed the class 12th or an equivalent exam from a recognised board or institution.
    • The general/OBC category candidates must secure at least 45% marks in the qualifying exam & SC/ST candidates need to secure at least 40% marks
  • For PG courses
    • Candidates should have an LLB degree from a recognised university.
    • General/OBC category candidates must secure 50% aggregate & SC/ST candidates need to secure 45% aggregate.

Age Limit :

As per the Bar council rules, there is no age for appearing in CLAT 2021

Number of Attempts :

There is no restriction on the number of attempts.

No Mark will be deducted if a question is left unattempted.

CLAT Exam pattern 2021 (For PG courses)

Last year, the consortium had removed the subjective section along with the minimum cutoff criteria for the PG exam. And, this year, consortium has restored the old pattern. The descriptive (Subjective) section is back in CLAT LLM. There will be a series of topics in this section and candidates will have to write two essays of around 800 words. Each essay will be of 25 marks, thus making the descriptive section of 50 marks.
